Compassionate Cymru’s vision is to be a considerate and caring nation that comes together to develop compassionate approaches to support people’s health and wellbeing. Compassionate Cymru works with individuals, organisations and communities to improve how people in Wales care, die and grieve.

In 2018, the Welsh Government set out it’s aspirations for Wales to become the world’s first ‘compassionate country’. Since then work has been ongoing to spread the compassionate approach throughout Wales.

Compassionate Cymru’s aim is to help people access and offer information, care and support in a compassionate way within their communities. It will particularly focus on care and support at the end of people’s lives, whenever that happens.

Mantell Gwynedd is proud to play its part in this unique development and by working in collaboration with Public Health Wales funding has employed a Compassionate Cymru Officer at Mantell Gwynedd who works across Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy.

The main focus of the project is :

  • to promote compassionate attitudes
  • to support local networks that promote compassionate attitudes
  • mapping end of life care and bereavement services and creating a Service Map with the aim of working towards identifying gaps and developing services to fill those gaps so that a flawless service is provided within our communities.
  • to support workplaces to adopt policies for
    • supporting individuals who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting health condition
    • supporting individuals dealing with death and bereavement
